NEW PUBLIC LIBRARY - GUADALAJARA, MEXICO

New Jalisco State Public Library A new public library for the state of Jalisco, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Our proposal is for a vertical landmark building that will draw attention to the library and act as a gateway to a new cultural centre. The different departments of the library are organized as groups of levels within a semi-transparent structural skin. Voids, moving up through the structure between the departments, create large terraces and interior spaces. The skin is also a continual circulation route binding the different parts of the program together. High speed vertical movement and service infrastructure is placed in three central cores. At the lower levels is a horizontal volume which conceals parking and programs connected to the cultural centre, while also separating the inner courtyard from the motorway in front of the library. competition entry 2005
