A refurbishment of a large turn-of-the-century house with a fully glazed extension. The first two floors are opened up from front to back giving a 15 metre depth at ground level. The extension is suspended over the garden with cantilevered decking, glass balustrades and a folded, perforated steel stair. the elevation to the garden comprises specially designed frameless sliding double-glazed panels and fixed glazing panels supported by laminated glass columns.The living, dining and kitchen areas are open plan. The kitchen is contained by a cast green and orange terrazzo island worktop. The main elemnt in the living room is an eleven metre long suspended wall with a fireplace, concealed lighting, hi-fi and video storage, and seven recessedpaintings by artist Peter Begley. At first floor level two studies are separated from the master bedroom by sliding frosted glass screens. An open plan bathroom and shower overlooks the roof terrace. A large hydraulic skylight brings light through the stairwell which is punctured with glazed openings. |
